Sally Shapiro – Forget About You

  • The unexpected return of a modern Italo disco star.

  • About five years ago, Sally Shapiro, the beloved synth pop project made up of the Swedish singer and her producer Johan Agebjörn, "went underground and released what was thought to have been their final single," according to the press release for the group's forthcoming album, Sad Cities. The first single off that LP, produced by Agebjörn and close peer Johnny Jewel (who will put out the record on his legendary Italians Do It Better label), suggests that the endearing characteristics of the modern Italo group are fully intact. "Forget About You" is a warm, wistful synth pop tune with a sturdy keyboard refrain oddly reminiscent of Vangelis's triumphant theme from Chariots Of Fire. In her signature detached, romantic tone Shapiro sings, "Please don't forget / Forget about me my friend," rhapsodizing about a summer romance—or perhaps her long absence. But there's no chance of that happening.
