  • Ash Lauryn does it all. The Detroit-to-Atlanta transplant is a DJ, journalist, radio host and now, with the release of the four-track Truth EP, an artist in her own right. (Full disclosure: Lauryn is also a semi-regular RA contributor.) Her varied dance music career is indicative of the current economics of club music, but also her clarity of purpose. Her aligning themes come up across the four vocal tracks on Truth—living your purpose, souful Black dance music and speaking your truth. My favorite track on the record is Kai Alcé's stepping remix of the post-lockdown anthem "Life Is Back." On that one, the original's upright bass is switched out for a propulsive, NDATL-style bassline. Later in the track, the respective keyboard skills of Truth producer Stefan Ringer and Alcé come into brilliant view.
