- Delano Smith has been refining his sound for the past 20 years and, as the name of his latest 12-inch might suggest, he has it down to a science. But just because Smith is focusing on the fundamentals doesn't mean the music is basic. "Twisted Dreams" is minimal techno at its leanest, with just a hint of dub to the occasional chord and enough funk to keep it lively. "Constant" also uses dub effects but wraps them around melancholy deep house. Likewise, "Anything" has a broody feel to it, but also has the record's most driving percussion. Deeper Fundamentals 2 underlines that no one makes hypnotic, stripped-back tracks like Smith.
