Lady Starlight - G3.1

  • 138 BPM techno that feels like a cool breeze.

  • Lady Starlight's new contribution to the second EP from the promising positivesource label is a kind of masterful fakeout. It begins with clobbering kick drums at a blistering 138 BPM pace, but just when you think it's about to pummel you, it changes tack. Sure, the drums don't really go away, but they're subsumed by slow, swooning string melodies that remind me of some of Fred P's dreamiest work. It's hard techno with a gorgeous, almost deep house sensibility, and its mix of gleefully hard rhythms and lofty melodies brings to mind just the kind of vintage techno and rave music the label is meant to pay tribute to.
