  • DJ Sodeyama's new album is called 1977, named for the year that Chicago's legendary club The Warehouse opened. As you might expect, the album is an homage to early house music, though it thankfully stays "homage" as opposed to "imitation." (And Sodeyama has fun with it—check out the "Dr. Love"-sampling "Mr. Dub.") "South Jefferson," titled after the Warehouse's address, opens the album in fine, stomping form: this is gleaming tech house with a hint of old-school soul, an exemplary 1977 cut, as thick, coagulated streams of acid squelch around the steely kick drums.
