  • Obsidian is a black, hard, glasslike rock formed by the rapid solidification of lava. On her latest single, Moor Mother touches on elements of the Black experience that are borne of a similar heat. Proximity to violence, be it at home or in the community, is the primary catalyst in this reaction: "You're the nightmare next door, yeah, I thought I knew you well," she croons with a haunting pitch shift on her vocals. At a scarce one minute and 30 seconds, some sludgy drums and a chilling guest verse from Pink Siifu make this a short and unsettling listen that lives in the room long after it's finished playing.
