  • Remixing "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)" feels a bit like trying to improve the Mona Lisa, but if anyone's up for it, it's the brothers Dewaele, last spotted turning Marie Davidson's "Work It" into a ubiquitous summer 2019 anthem (and landing a Grammy nomination in the process). For this extended remix, created with the massive Despacio soundsystem Soulwax runs with James Murphy in mind, the duo took a deep dive into the original multitrack recordings and created a monster. The nearly 11-minute cut starts with a handclap for the DJs and withholds Sylvester's massive chorus until about three-quarters in. In the meantime, this thing cooks. Soulwax EQ the octave bassline for their massive system while also including a few Easter eggs for disco nerds. Patrick Cowley saw Sylvester rehearse an early version of the disco hit and offered to produce the song, and the remix concludes with a snippet of the original, gospel-tinged take. Cowley, of course, turned it into a cosmic disco landmark, but Soulwax has unearthed a searing synth solo from the tapes that sounds mind-bending even by current standards. All in all, this mammoth remix feels more like a loving homage than a typical rework.
