Skrillex, Starrah & Four Tet - Butterflies

  • A wonderfully fizzy garage-pop track from a star studded trio.

  • Skrillex and Four Tet have been friends and DJing partners for years, and when they team up on production, the results are refreshing and light, pop music with a real heft to it. "Butterflies," their new collaboration with vocalist and songwriter to the stars Starrah (sorry about the pun), is both the best Skrillex, and, I'd argue, most fun Four Tet material in a while. That comes down to hooks, hooks and more hooks. Bobbing along on an addictive 2-step beat, Starrah's warbled vocals are both meek and anthemic, the melody turning into a Disclosure-esque belter once the trademark Skrillex wordless chorus comes in. Whether it's a hint of a new direction to come on Skrillex's new album or just the influence of Four Tet, "Butterflies" is smooth, effervescent house music with a killer bassline, catchy vocals and no trace of the EDM excess of the past.
