  • From reggae to footwork, Japanese artists have long put their own spin on established genres. Tokyo's grime scene is still developing, but its MCs draw on a range of styles rather than simply copying the UK sound. Here, Tokyo rapper ONJUICY spits an ambitious tale of leaving his job behind the checkout counter at local convenience store Lawson against Primula's backdrop of staggered claps and dubstep-inspired beats. The lyrics are serious but the MC's conversational style, combined with Primula's addition of videogame-esque synths, result in an overall quirky feel that you'd be hard pressed to find in traditional grime.
