Idris Bena - Danceteria

  • One of Paris's new guard supplies house made from one part nostalgia, two parts futurism.

  • The releases on Rakya are certainly house records in a classic sense, but the Parisian upstarts know how to color only just within the lines. "Danceteria" captures this perfectly. The track starts like a loving homage to classic New York sounds: the slow release of pads evoking that emotionally charged space where sex and sadness meet. But as the song finds its groove, it’s clear that the opening bars (and maybe the vocalist yelling "powe"”) are the only nostalgic elements. The rest of the track is relentless in its forward momentum, creating a maze of melodies and rhythms that sound completely visionary.
