Johan Agebjörn—who you might best know as the producer behind Sally Shapiro—and Mikael Ögren have teamed up for a new album based on Arthur C Clarke's classic sci-fi novel Rendezvous With Rama. The duo take to the subject matter with an appropriately astral sort of Krautrock, built on vintage-sounding synths and sequencers. "Monitoring The Zooids" is one of the major highlights of the EP, with bold, ascending chord sequences, twinkling arpeggios and a palpitating rhythm that makes you feel like something big is about to happen. It's rich, narrative electronic music in a tradition of science fiction-inspired records, and it holds up to any of the finest stuff from the '70s.
