Klein - only ever you

  • A brief R&B dirge from one of London's most innovative artists.

  • Brandy is Klein's idol. You can hear it whenever she brings out her nasally, high-pitched voice above that glacial, R&B-influenced production. The London musician first release this year, "only ever you," has arrived quietly, and it could be best described as an R&B-laced dirge. While we're not clear on what's been left behind, this is without a doubt a song about loss. Her repeated croons, "I cannot hold / No more tears," wind through the track like gossamer threads, a returning point swaddled with heavy piano chords, soft chuckles and whispered runs that evoke the raw and moving presence of a gospel choir.
