- When SOPHIE passed away last month, it was a mournful event for anyone with the slightest appreciation for modern pop music. Shortly after her death, Miami bass duo Basside shared the first track they workshopped with the Glasgow-born producer in her Los Angeles studio with a sense of urgency. "Time is precious," they explained, "and waiting for a hypothetical future we know nothing about is the wrong way to live. All we have is the present." The Fuck It Up EP was born during that short session, and the title track offers a look into what could have been a near-perfect, long-time collaboration. Between SOPHIE's signature sticky, maximalist production and Basside's bawdy, pleasure-chasing lyrics, this is music that screams Miami, with a real sense of swagger.
