- On so many drum & bass tracks, the intro is an afterthought—the section most DJs just skip over to get to the first beat. "Bully," the first single from FD's new EP, is built differently: it begins with a sharp intake of breath, before introducing the drums piecemeal, hinting at a vocal melody that takes shape in full later on. From there it becomes the kind of sumptuous banger FD specializes in, with a particularly gnarly-sounding bassline that sounds like it's tumbling down a cliffside. The Zurich producer has been on a roll lately, and "Bully" is a good introduction to what makes him special: creative sound design, a grasp of the fundamentals of the genre and a willingness to deviate from them just enough to turn your head.
