  • "A walk through Dhaka city during daytime hours makes me feel like there is more to take in than I am able to process in real time," Enayet explains in the notes for his new EP on the New York label SLINK. "Taking a rickshaw ride through the late night / early morning fog (the densest fog and smog I have ever experienced) makes me feel an unparalleled sense of serenity." The duality of this experience, inspired by Enayet's trip home to the Bangladeshi capital, defines his new EP, full of buzzing broken techno that evinces chaos and concentration at the same time. Enayet makes prickly techno with juddering rhythms and impressive sound design. Clock the way the drums on "Chokkor" float into earshot, as if they were coming from a few feet away, before slamming down in full glory like a lightning strike. "Bhir" has a more irresistible swing, opening itself up just slightly. Then comes "Khali," a gorgeous, faraway track that evokes the texture and sight of that smog—the rare ambient interlude that's worth its salt. The remixes are nearly as inspired as the originals. Cassius Select's take on "Bhir" massages the knots out of the original until it's limber and funky. Kilbourne turns "Chokkor" into a hardcore techno monster, kick drums doubling up like a heart murmur. It's a fitting finale for a thrilling debut EP that presses all the right buttons: intricate, danceable and full of twists and turns.
