Rose Bonica - Send Forgiveness / Disengage

  • A boomy self-care mantra.

  • Jamz Supernova's relationship to South African dance music runs deep. She wrote a feature for Bandcamp Daily, champions the sounds on BBC 1Xtra, and makes trips to South Africa with the British Council. It was through one of these trips that she found the music of Rose Bonica. Send Forgiveness / Disengage, Bonica's first international release, arrives through Jamz Supernova's label, Future Bounce. If last year's excellent album, Tears For The Tea Makers, was her way of expressing intimacy and vulnerability, "Send Forgiveness" is the opposite. It's spartan and self-assured, a personal development mantra set to the clattering drum sounds of UK funky, house and techno. Just after two minutes a bassline rips through the track and it reboots with another plea to forgive. "Disengage" is equally direct, combining the warehouse feel with a carnival one. Two tracks of no-nonsense body music from an artist whose usual MO is more cerebral.
