Teresa Winter - Woman A Come

  • A dubwise prayer for victims of domestic violence.

  • Margarita Mahfood, one of the first female reggae artists and the original singer of "Woman A Come," was fatally stabbed in 1965 by her boyfriend and collaborator, Don Drummond of The Skatalites. Yet, somehow, the song—a grimly ironic anti-prophecy—still appeared on a memorial album to Drummond following his death in prison. It also appears, in drastically different form, on Teresa Winter's Love Crime tape for Boomkat. Winter sings the haunting lyrics over a barreling, bottom-heavy rhythm. It's an inspired remake that shines a light on a disturbing story in music history.
