  • Felix Clary Weatherall is a chameleon, but you can always count on him for one thing: melody. His latest release, the first on his new label Scarlet Tiger, finds him in introspective form, with a strong whiff of Four Tet thanks to its loping beat and crystal-clear bell-tones. But otherwise, the hummable "Burner" only highlights Weatherall's gifts, with a sudden, dramatic breakdown and dubby effects that offer the improvisatory feel of his excellent live sets. The best part might be the bassline, roiling and roly-poly, morphing like water flowing through a twisty pipe, emphasizing how an artist once known for "lo-fi house" excels at detail.
