  • Woozy, washed-out songs of love and loss.

  • On the new EP from Maryland's Matt Rogers, club beats are replaced by soft-focus textures and pregnant pauses. It's like trying to see through tears. (This feeling is especially potent on the breakbeat freak-out "Seed Perfuming.") Most of the tracks are like '80s power ballads by way of post-dubstep—piano, big bass, misty synths—and the easy highlight is "sobbing," a wobbly torch song with tremulous piano and a soaring vocal from Rosie Ruel. It's hard to tell if it's a love song or a breakup jam, and the bittersweet feeling hits like a ton of bricks.
