- We all know what Ministry of Sound does in the UK, Germany, Spain, Australia and other countries worldwide and tonight it was Chile's turn to get a taste of the action.
Despite the different musical parameters on this side of the world, slightly different to the European scene, the thin long-stripped Andean nation has had the chance to witness some quality fine acts in the past few years.
Tonight's MOS party was no different. Local DJs Mikiphone and Karen Neumann set the pace early in the night with a perfect warm-up of beautifully stringed deep house and tech-house. As the crowd slowly turned up and dressed for the occasion, it was a great opportunity to enjoy the brilliant surrounding scenery, with a view of the entire harbour of the port city Valparaiso.
While the average Chilean party-goer isn't particularly clued up about Ministry of Sound, those electronic enthusiasts from the capital of Santiago, who have an endless amount of vibrant enthusiasm and are willing to travel a whole day just to see the masters spin, are more than familiar with the global clubbing brand. Tonight was no different as the crowds rocked up despite the hour less of partying due to daylight saving changes.
In a matter of minutes, a nice two thousand strong crowd was enjoying the delights of the spectacular lights and sound show. Unfortunately, Marc Hughes failed to live up to expectations with the crowd wanting vocals and house classics, none of which was on offer.
A quick check of watches and before we knew it, it was already around 3.30am. The price of energy drinks was notched up so they were on par with the cocktail bar and making matters worse, was a chilling breeze emphasizing the need for a solid set.
A deafening silence came over the area for the next 40 minutes as the music suddenly stopped and the crowd waited for Dutch DJ Joyce Mercedes and UK's Rowan Blades to show up. Forty minutes later and it was time to rumble with classics and biggies like Moloko's "Bring It Back", Soulsearcher's "I Can't Get Enough", Deep Dish's "Sacramento" and everyone's favourite, Infusion's "Girls Can Be Cruel", the concluding track for the night.
Everybody in the crowd seemed to have a good time with Joyce Mercedes clearly stealing the show and treating the crowd to her great mixing talents that should find favour with the crowds in Europe. Not even the chilly 5 degrees could impede the masses of moving feet.
Word on everybody's lips has it that Ferry Corsten and Richie Hawtin will be playing in in Santiago so definitely won't be missing that!
