Luke Walker - Alias / Streak

  • Founded by Darren Emerson over 10 years ago Underwater records have become stalwarts of the house music scene having notched up and impressive catalogue of music from names such as Tim Deluxe, Sharem Jey and Gus Gus to name a few and for their 70th release a new face is welcomed into the H2O family, New Zealander Luke Walker who comes up with two dirty house numbers. Alias comes first and doesn't hang about in setting a beefy pace with constant energetic percussion along with a jackin' beat, throbbing bassline and sharp edged synthline that adds more impact. While this is happening a gritty guitar riff works its way in along with drop outs and old style stabs that shift it nicely to the next phase, keeping up the pressure at every turn. Side B has Streak which is in a similar mould but more on the uplifting side as a shifting bassline pulsates from the start with a warm, atmospheric groove as cut up vocals and stabby bits are tweaked.Thrown into the mix are alternating dj style cuts and drum rolls that keep our interest as an electro twist creeps out from between the groove. Both tracks are put together with peaktime in mind and that purpose they will serve well whether its to lift a set or to just surprise.
