Silosonic - Something

  • This recording of Silosonic's "Something" has be completely re-sung by vocalist Beverley Skeete. Skeete has a good track record having previously sung with Chaka Khan, The Orb, Jamiroquai, M People, Robbie Williams, Gabrielle and Tom Jones. "Something" features a good vocal hook that leaves you singing along to "Hey baby what you doing tonight? I've got something to make you feel alright, if you just give me a chance". Beware singing it next to strangers though unless they're good looking and you're on a dance floor. With the trumpets and swingin' percussion this tune builds nicely into a bouncy infectious groovin' house rhythm. The remix package includes the original, Breaking Down Club mix and radio edit, Buzz Kitchen mix and radio edit, Kandid mix and Dirty South mix. The original and Kandid mixes are stripped back versions with less percussion and vocals. The Buzz Kitchen and Dirty South mixes are the ones that will set the dance floor on fire. The Buzz Kitchen mix is done by two unnamed high-profile Melbourne DJs and is along the lines of straight up funk-driven house, full of groove. Dirty South goes sleazy and electro for his mix, throwing out the groove in favour of a huge bassline, buzzing percussion and moody atmospheric sounds akin to a progressive house vibe. This mix far outshines the rest for me, but I like a little variety in my house tunes.
