Deep Dish – Say Hello (Remixes)

  • Deep Dish’s success of ‘Say Hello’ can be attributed to a number of things. One being its infectious vocal but it’s also the elements that the remixes pull from the original to recreate a whole new sound while paying homage to its roots. Stepping up to remix this monster includes trance legend Paul Van Dyk, house stars Chus & Ceballos, breaks don Dylan Rhymes and fast rising starts Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso. The Angello & Ingrosso remix starts off with a pumping house beat alongside rocky basslines and upfront hit hats. An early breakdown creates an epic feel with atmospherics but is quickly shadowed by the emotive vocal. Once it’s dropped back into the rhythm, there is a big slap of sound with rumbling bass, ringing samples, jumpy melodies and effected vocals. The breakdowns are definitely a highlight as the slow build features the full vocal and a catchy guitar riff and will have any dance floor moving. Powerful mix. Chus & Ceballos get extra busy with their smooth and upbeat remix featuring tight, rhythmical percussion with deep and dark samples filtering over constantly. A nice sustained melody fills the moody emotion of the mix and sets up the main melody which is an infectious electro-like hook. The vocal is lightly scattered under heavy filters and reverbs but as the track continues the melodies, quirky samples and percussion become more apparent and are the definite draw card here. The breakdown changes its tune as it features a gorgeous piano along with the vocal, but the duo reach down again into their bag of melodic pleasures and releases a great stabbing synth that really lifts the track up a notch and remains throughout the rest of the mix. This is just a great remix. Showing up unexpected is Paul Van Dyk with a solid progressive trance effort featuring use of the uplifting synths early on with slow atmospherics and tight, rolling melodies. The vocal gets full play here and is pushed along with subtle stabbing synths and simple piano-like chords. A nice controlled breakdown is reminiscent of early PvD days and I’m impressed that the mix hasn’t moved into big synth cheese. I’m not a trance fan but I know when a track is remixed properly and this has been done well. Rounding out a very diverse package is Dylan Rhymes with his Acid Thunder remix. Tough beats and percussion are apparent from the go-get as the rough and ready feel gets going with the inclusion of a gritty guitar sample. The vocal gets introduced early as well and plays along with the break beats while sustained, siren-like sounds elevate the already heightened mood. Dylan does some nice effects work in the breakdown with an great array of sounds accompanying the vocal while a devilishly wiked acid melody is unleashed. Very gritty mix. Just by reading who was on remix duties for this release, one might be put off due to the difference in sounds, but to be fair, this release does hit many spots in me due to this variety. All mixes sounds very different and are very well done production wise. Chus & Ceballos definitely scored a hit with me on this one.
