GU:022 - Dave Seaman - Melbourne

  • I really needn’t describe the Global Underground series. Its name is synonymous with quality, and the previous 20 mixes from elite DJ’s such as John Digweed, Sasha and Danny Tenaglia (just to name a few) have oozed fresh tracks, impeccable mixing and longevity, which is key for a mix compilation. Their latest installment, from a DJ that also demands no introduction, Dave Seaman, is yet another piece of the jigsaw that paints a very pretty picture. This edition comes from Melbourne, based on a night at the Goods Shed. From the outset, let me point out that this is quite a different mix from Dave compared to his previous releases under the GU banner. CD1 starts out where his Back To Mine left off – soothing ambience with the Slow mix of “Soliton Wave” by Australian outfit Our House. Satoshi Tomiie continues the peaceful aura with his remix of “Loverman” by Urban Dwellers. Dave, however, decides to get down to business by using the S-Man’s Gypsy remix of Howie B’s “Making Love On Your Side” and then delves a bit deeper with yet another Australian record, Digital Mind Control’s “Mindstake”. The very much ‘In-Form’ Israeli Flash Brothers take the mix to another level with “Sarcasm”, a record that has Dave Seaman stamped all over it, hypnotic melodies and clattering drums. No album is complete without a scent of Cass & Slide, and this time the aroma is “Mind Rewind”, sweeping horn like screeches with a mesmerising breakdown to say the least! The mix then enters the fast and the furious, with “Kenny’s Back”, a Guy Gerber & Sahar Z offering and the trademark Slacker baseline and eerie melodies can be heard with their latest production “Looky Thing”. CD1 hits a home run! But the game is definitely not won yet, as there is still another 70 odd minutes of Seaman bliss to go! The 2nd half kicks off with the very brilliant FC Kahuna, and their electro funk monster, “Glitterball”. Evolutions stylish and epic remix of Bill Hamel’s “Close” sparkens things early in the mix. Sean Cusick’s “Consider The Ravens” has a very dirty and vicious feel to it as does the “Magic Dust” of Natious. Dave is definitely stepping up the gears at the moment. Infusion is then featured for the 2nd time in the mix with “Starwater” (“Legacy” being placed earlier in the mix), and the standard energetic vibe applies here as it does to with most of Infusion’s work. We now enter trademark Dave Seaman territory! Starting with the harmonious “Corporate Entertainment” by Pin Drop. Dave unleashes a big ‘fuck-off’ baseline with “Roots” by Lo-Step, a Phil K project. No Dave Seaman mix is complete without a few vocal treats, the first in Ashland’s “Clear”and then followed by a superb remix courtesy Tom “Cosmos” Middleton of Lamb’s “What Sound”. The journey concludes with “Slide” by Frakkar. TRACKLIST: Disc One 1. Solition Wave (Slow Mix) - Our House 2. Loverman (Satoshi Tomiie Ambient Mix) - Urban Dwellers 3. Intruder - Jono Fernandez 4.
