Holden & Thompson - Come To Me

  • The term genius is not used in dance music that often but in the case of James Holden i definitely think it can! James has always been a pioneer from his very early days on Silver planet to his invention of the sound known as "pixie trance" and now his latest production moves on yet again. James has been championing the avante garde with his label Border Community and now he follows up his previous single on Loaded Nothing with Come to me. Theres plenty of mixes on offer here over two 12" so theres plenty to get through but i am mainly going to focus on the Club mix as i think thats the one which will gain the most interest. The track starts off with James trademark lo-fi production and if you listen to it on a normal stereo those drums sound more biscuit tin production but as the track builds this is quickly forgotten! Holden uses clicks and bleeps like instruments themselves and weaves them in and out of the mix to create an almost hypnotic feel. They way he uses sounds is stunning and i would go as far as to say that if Radiohead made dance music this is what it sound like, experimental and downright moody it looks like the pixie has finally come of age! On the flipside you will find the Original mix and tons of usefull accepellas including those from his previous single Nothing so plenty to play around with there. The track has already had the distinction of being featured on Sasha's "Fundacion" and also Nick Warrens GU compilation so this may be the track to really put Holden into the big time.
