  • Release number 24 for UK breakbeat label Boombox comes from two established house producers, Sifter & Adan. Based in Austin, Texas the duo have made a name for themselves with previous releases on label such as Honchos Music and Exun, they now present their first foray into the realm of breakbeat with two testosterone filled tunes, Didn't Mean To Turn You Off and Mack That Ass Up. Side A. Didn't Mean To Turn You Off Seems like Sifter & Adan really can't shake off their house personas as this tune features a heavy bouncing 4 to the floor bassline and kick drum pattern. They add to this breakbeat syncopation on top with a funky snare and percussion break - done in a funk/disco style. It's then topped off with hip hop vocal stabs, sci-fi sound effects and progressively builds through fading effects in and out of the mix until the end. Side B. Mack That Ass Up Again this tune sits on a 4 to the floor house/breaks cross over beat. A bit less serious than the A side, Mack That Ass Up features a quirky electro hook and bassline, vocal stabs and a disco style breakbeat breakdown in the middle before going back to the housey beats earlier on in the piece. There's bound to be records in some DJs boxes which are perfect for bridging gaps between styles and Sifter & Adan's debut on Boombox records is perfect for crossing between tech house and breakbeat.
