  • Since DJ Deep's last release on Tresor in 2015, the Frenchman has continued his tireless quest for the finest in deep house and techno, working with greats of both genres (think Kerri Chandler and Jeff Mills). Fosph, his new EP for the German label, exemplifies his widely cast net and excellence across the board. The rainforest sounds that open the record conjure a place far away from Tresor's dank basement. As "Swamps" settles into a groove, it proves to be the kind of warm-up fare you might hear at 1 AM in the Berlin club's Globus room. As a regular DJ there, Deep knows exactly what works, even if it doesn't appear to be the most typical Tresor sound. "Tommy" is more straight-forward, leaning so heavily on the 909 that it sounds like an homage tool made for one of his sets with Jeff Mills. Rather than going full-steam ahead, DJ Deep dips into spaced-out ambient on "Utrecht." It's an unexpected left-turn, a breather that resembles the stairway walk from one room in Tresor to another. "Demonstration" has an old-school style one-word sample that hits the sweet spot between house and techno, showcasing DJ Deep's love for all that is raw and funky.
