Fit Of Body - Punks Unavailable

  • Ethereal hip-house from the Atlanta artist.

  • Atlanta-based producer, label head and skater has been doing his thing for years now, and still, not enough people know. Regardless, Ryan Parks, AKA Fit Of Body, continues to do his thing. In 2020 he put out excellent tapes on his label, Harsh Riddims. Now he's back with an EP of his own. For me, it's the ethereal hip-house cuts—featuring Parks' whispered vocals, live bass and dubbed-out percussion—that stand out. Taves, who dropped the excellent Akátá LP on Harsh Riddims earlier this year, sings backup vocals on the excellent "solo Jazz," but the title track is the one. I'm not sure whether "Punks Unavailable" is a synth-pop song or a house cut, but whatever it is, it works. The soaring two-note synth lead, deceptively simple bass line and Spirit Of Eden-style chords combine for a remarkably poignant dance floor track.
