  • Plenty of people try to make disco, but the "nu" qualifier is at least partially attributable to the fact that the studio prowess, instrumental mastery and raw exuberance of the original underground variety is hard to come by. Tokyo resident Nobuyuki Suzuki has the goods, as clearly demonstrated on his new 7-inch, I Wanna Show You. The title track's mix of driving piano, hummable lyrics, vocoder and spaced-out synths calls back to Loose Joints and Patrick Adams, while the B-side, "Love Is The Harmony," is a mid-tempo stepper made all the better by Ben Hadwen's pitch-perfect flute solos. This is the real shit for fans of Sylvester's "I Need Somebody To Love Tonight." Lyrically, Suzuki hits on classic themes. Burning, irrepressible love and the "melody" and "harmony" of two people entwined. The record is out on Beyond Space And Time, the fledgling imprint from Japan's beloved Rainbow Disco Festival. "I would like to help RDC which was cancelled due to COVID-19," Suzuki says on I Wanna Show You. Indeed, these are timeless tunes of love and togetherness that serve as a reminder of better times.
