  • Anz's output, both as a DJ and as a producer, is an accumulation of various sub-genres, city-specific club music mutations and nostalgia-inducing eras. Her fascination for electronic music in its various guises means you never quite know how any one of Anz's releases, mixes or sets will sound, but you can always guarantee that it will go off. Recent projects, like her 35-track spring/summer dubs 2020 production mix, have worked to communicate the breadth of Anz's sound. The mix encompassed everything from UK funky, dubstep and jungle to garage, electro, techno and '90s rave. Anz is clearly skilled at fusing these sounds—in her hands they feel equal parts familiar and fresh. Anz has successfully done it again on her Hessle Audio debut, Loos In Twos (NRG). Perhaps it's an even better feat than her all-originals mixes, as here she homes in on her expansive sound and channels it into just three tracks. Opener "Loos In Twos (NRG)" (which featured on spring/summer dubs 2019 ) makes you pine for your pals and weekend rituals long forgotten. Not just because of its title, but because of its rave stabs, rattling breakbeats and immediate wheel-up potential. "Gary Mission" is largely the same, but sees her focus shift from peak-time energy to something wavier and and more fitting for 5 AM. Finally there's "Stepper," which is headsy and pummelling in an entirely different way, the vocal snippet used to full effect to guide you through the heaviness of the percussion. It's funky, and it makes you want to dance wherever and whenever you hear it. Much like the rest of the EP, actually.
