  • Persian is an unsung hero of UK dance music. Emerging from the B-Boy and soundsystem culture of the '90s, he started out making hardcore and jungle as Persian Prince. Then "Dangerous" happened. The proto-garage track was hugely influential when it came out in 1995. It was first released as a run of 500 white-labels but blew up and was licensed to Locked On Records. When Four Tet included "Feel Da Vibe" on fabriclive59, it introduced Persian's vast discography to a new audience. He has been on a hot streak ever since, reissuing and remixing many forgotten gems though his label Existence Is Resistance. Next in line is Get Down (UKG Mix) / Dangerous Dub Retwist. Despite the fresh touches and newly stripped-back feel to "Dangerous Dub Retwist," it keeps the original's vibe alive. Persian embraces his Iranian heritage through his choice of samples, combining that with a ragga spirit. "Get Down (UKG Mix)" is a busy and infectious 4x4 cut which modernizes the 2013 version. The vocal layers and lively drums have everything there is to love about garage music. Like many of Persian's 12-inches, there is a curveball to finish. "Space Within Art" slows the tempo down to a thick, sludgy beat and rounds off the EP in fine style.
