  • The ambitious Dolos album was an artistic high point for Murlo. It came with a graphic novel that told the story of a man who reconnects with nature through a hallucinogenic forest that he discovers through an app. Its follow-up EP, Primed For Primal, concerns the forest people from the album who come to revere artificial intelligence, which is Murlo's way of comparing our dependence on modern technology with the pagan rituals of yore. Heavy themes for a club EP, but Murlo usually finds a way to make it musically captivating. At first, "Primal" might remind you of the most epic moments of Midsommar, with a surging choir and heaving synth chords, before a snare-driven build-up, creating a real heart-in-mouth moment as the song veers towards its final climax. The drop never quite comes, but "Primal" keeps your attention, conjuring images of some grand ceremony through the tropes of modern club music. Even without words, Murlo is a storyteller.
