- The next wave in UK dance music from a label that hasn't put out a bad record.
- Well Street Records puts out 12-inches that have quickly become buy-on-sight concerns for DJs interested in the subtler side of soundsystem music. Unsurprisingly, the UK imprint's second compilation EP doesn't disappoint. On WSR VA2, Well Street welcomes a quartet of young producers who fit perfectly within its novel bass + deep techno aesthetic. Box 5ive's "Slicate," a downtempo track with a menacing bassline, is the easy highlight. But every track here, from "Snide"—a Hessle/Livity-style pressure cooker from London's Henry Greenleaf—to Formant Value's slippery, polyrhythmic "Polycausa," hints at intriguing new directions within a scene that's still fueled by rapid, incremental developments.
