  • "It's perennially valid, timeless and current-sounding no matter what stage or phase of the musical cycle you are in," is how Neil Landstrumm described bleep, the short-lived scene that thrived in Yorkshire and Sheffield between 1988 and 1991. Bleep launched Warp Records and laid the foundation for hardcore, yet somehow went decades without getting its proper due. Now, with a new book, a compilation and young DJs caning the likes of Robert Gordon and DJ Parrot, bleep is back. Die Orakel's new triptych of bleep tribute 12-inches speaks to that. The final EP comes from Frankfurt-based Koga, who already has a massive bleeps & breaks cut under his belt. On ORKL-0114-Series 03, he mostly nails the Sheffield sound, approximating bleep's funky, megaton bass lines. The highlight here is the inside cut, "ORKL-0114-03 B2," on which breaks, subtle vocal samples and sub bass coalesce into classic bleep momentum.
