  • is / was, the Pittsburgh label run by Tony Fairchild (or loafman to his fellow Discogsians), describes its output as "future-proof dance music in all timeless styles." Its sub-label TerraFirm® goes bigger, promising "a full range of services to return your planet to its naturally thriving, pre-apocalypse state." TerraFirm®'s latest, from the unknown artist Vytamin, delivers on both fronts, with four tracks that call to mind the future utopias in "what society would look like..." memes. The drums are smooth and crisp, the grooves perfectly bouncy—those kick drum rolls on "Télé Métro" are worth the price of admission alone. True to the is / was mission statement, these tracks feel at once modern and faintly retro, with traces of trance on "Outer Rim" and just a hint of Italo on "Speed Limit." Fairchild's labels are some of the best out there for refined club heat, and this record's no exception.
