- Another batch of sharp club tracks from New York.
- The eighth instalment of Strictly 4 My CDJZ shows off not only the New York scene's genre-agnostic approach but also Kush Jones' own pristine production style. Take "Wop," one of the EP's highlights, which sounds wet, weird and wobbly, with more than a hint of leftfield techno. "Bouncie Bass" has streaks of squelchy synths, as thin and blinding as staring into the filament of a lightbulb.
Elsewhere, Jones tackles footwork with a spartan approach, highlighting the genre's floating basslines and stabbing snare patterns, like he turned the tracks inside-out. "Social Distance Practice" is a rowdy jungle tune with warm basslines, which make another appearance on the EP's highlight "Like Water." This track is a syncopated take on soulful Detroit house. Through all these genres, Jones establishes a signature: fast but uncluttered arrangements, organic low-end and splatters of melody. Like his peers AceMo, MoMa Ready and DJ Swisha, Jones is not only a multi-talented producer but a prolific one too, sharpening his approach with every new batch of tracks.
