Igorrr - Very Noise

  • Bold, confusing breakcore with a funny side. (Just wait till you see the film clip.)

  • The opening bars of Igorrr's latest track, "Very Noise," could be from any number of breakcore artists. Once the distorted metal guitar kicks in, that number is slightly reduced. But there are still a huge number of breakcore producers who wear their metal influences on their sleeves, from Aaron Spectre to Bong Ra and beyond. It's the first hint of the bass guitar that makes "Very Noise" feel special. It pinpoints the moment the track develops from a sound we've heard many times before into something more akin to Primus playing a squat rave. The more the track goes on, the less digital it sounds. No doubt genre purists will spend a few good hours debating whether it shifts into progressive metal, math rock one, or any number of hard-to-define subgenres. It's not for everyone, but its sense of humour will win over some who may have otherwise been put off. The slap-bass fills, bright synths and cheeky chant of "Hey!" bring a sense of fun. This distinct personality also continues into its bizarre and excellent video by Meatdept., which I'd strongly suggest watching whether the track sounds like your bag or not.
