  • In his first appearance on Fracture and Neptune's Astrophonica label, John Cunnane, the UK artist known as dgoHn, serves up some of the best music of his 15-year run. Cunnane has long flown the flag for drumfunk, a drum & bass-adjacent sound his records have helped shape. Fittingly for a self-titled EP, though, dgoHn is more an example of his unique style than it is of any established genre. Its dizzyingly complex beats forming slinky, in-the-pocket grooves, more fluid than they are chaotic, and free of any jungle or drum & bass tropes. All four tracks are good, but particularly "Acacia Road," a dreamy exercise in fast/slow rhythms, and "Lost And Found," a meandering, unpredictable cut built around what sound like live drums. For the latest iteration of a sound honed over many years, dgoHn sounds really fresh.
