- The sound of grime's new generation.
- Grime is moving in a direction that captures the energy of a new generation pushing things forward. Any late-night listen to NTS's BrakFM show—and its hosts PK Brako and M.I.C.—makes it clear the scene has found a new, playful swagger (or "joga," a word frequently heard on BrakFM, which Jawnino and his contemporaries frequent).
It's no surprise, then, that Jawnino's matter-of-fact ode to London, "It's Cold Out," has a youthful resilience that pierces through the hopelessness of it all. Reworking elements of the beat from Oliver Twist's grime ballad "Ethereal," the producers Intentionally Cold and Poundshop weave a soundscape peppered with skittering percussion. It sounds like the natural progression of the Korg Triton-driven eskimo sound for Jawnino to cruise along to, as he details, "seven-man deep in a Honda Accord." This track represents a new phase for grime. It's about living life in colour against the grey and finding beauty in mistakes because, as Jawnino tells us, "That's how we like it, innit?"
