- Classy techno primed for DJ use.
- Up until recently, DJ Nobu wasn't particularly known for production. He was content with being one of techno's best selectors, pushing a deep yet accessible style. But a string of new tracks, including three on the recent On-Netoh EP for Rush Hour, are putting more focus on his productions. The four-track Extra Tools, his latest record, could be a companion to a new collection of Nobu's favourite tracks (one is Burial's "Archangel"). As Extra Tools' title hints, its tracks are meant for the dance floor.
Tracks like these are Nobu's secret ingredients. Individually, they won't bowl you over, but there's a psychedelia to their intense repetition. My favourite is the reverb-drenched thud of "Ichimaru," but each track should be useful to DJs. If you're looking for a way to inject some of Nobu's energy into your techno sets, here's your chance.
