- Four Tet at his twisted best.
- When he draws from soul, funk and house, Kieran Hebden makes some of the cheeriest music around. But, like the rest of us, he loves twisted sounds, too. Featuring two versions of one track, the new release under his ⣎⡇ꉺლ༽இ•̛)ྀ◞ ༎ຶ ༽ৣৢ؞ৢ؞ؖ ꉺლ alias (which, to save your eyesight, I'll only copy and paste once) is his most psychedelic in a while. This is mostly thanks to the heavily treated vocal sample used in both tracks. The vocal, perhaps sourced from an R&B tune, is pulled apart, tweaked and reversed until it resembles something you'd hear on a Ricardo Villalobos 12-inch. But this is Kieran Hebden, so on both tracks, after the garage-style percussion comes a sunny melody, this time recalling the brighter moments of Selected Ambient Works Volume II. These tracks are DJ-ready, but there's a special depth we don't usually get from Hebden's other heavy tunes.
