- "His Eye Is On The Sparrow ," the B-side of Floorplan's newest 12-inch, takes its name from a gospel hymn written in 1905. It's been performed by dozens of world-famous acts, among them Marvin Gaye, Lauryn Hill and Jessica Simpson. Robert and Lyric Hood, together with the vocalist Carol Otis, are the latest to update its holy verses, though you're not likely to hear their version in church anytime soon. Instead, you'll likely hear it boomed through Funktion-Ones onto a heaving late-night dance floor, the optimal setting for its steamrolling percussion and bassline. There's also tasteful saxophone and classic Floorplan organs, the momentum relentlessly chugging forward. Where so much high-energy house and techno overreaches, the Hoods show that it's possible to make massive tunes by putting the focus on one thing—groove.
