  • If you've watched The Wire (and if you haven't, I'm sure at least five of your friends have pointed out the error of your ways), you've probably imitated the crooked politician Clay Davis's immortal catchphrase, "Sheeeeeee-it." Kyle Hall did the same when remixing Alton Miller & Amp Fiddler's deep house track "When The Morning Comes" in 2010. He starts off speaking, then singing the mellifluous profanity over dusty "Deep Burnt"-style strings. While it's not the defining moment of this incredible remix (reissued thanks to Ricardo Miranda), the irreverent intro does exemplify what makes Hall's music so good. At this early stage in his career, Hall's tracks brimmed with carefree exuberance. You can tell how much fun he was having in the studio. The way Hall freaks the synth, walks the bassline and indulges in warm Rhodes tremolo will have you saying "sheeeeeee-it," too.
