  • Earlier this year, I went to a party in Melbourne headlined by the dubstep artist Loefah. After Loefah finished, Exit99 from the ONE PUF collective, who hosted the party, took over, blasting old-school hip-hop before playing clubbier tracks. As suggested by their playful logo (it blends a Nike icon and acid smiley with a globe symbol), ONE PUF takes an eclectic approach. After releasing tech house, bass and UK garage, their latest release is hinged around breakbeats. Produced by the British artist Private Caller, Let Me Know / Want Me presents two cheeky club tracks with an early '90s vibe. They switch between classic breakbeat patterns and four-on-the-floor. "Let Me Know," which starts with poppy vocal samples, eventually turns into a mean garage track. "Want Me"'s classic break sample is paired with sharp lead synths. Private Caller has an affection for sentimental pads and melodies, but this release shows his sinister side.
