- Around five years ago Junes emerged with a recognisable sound that didn't obviously betray an affiliation to a specific local scene. At first, the music was vaguely UK-centric, but by 2016 influences from the sounds heard at venues like Hoppetosse began subtly creeping in. This welcome development paired Junes's knack for memorable melodies and pads to the more low-slung and swinging grooves you often hear at the Berlin club, especially heard in the basslines.
Blue Moon sees the pendulum swinging further towards those influences. His signature soft touch remains on display, but all four tracks hit the nail on the head with nimble basslines (especially "Milling"), congo-heavy pitter-patter and, crucially, an approach to production that sounds like the present day rather than the '90s (many producers with similar influences prefer to sound like the latter). Blue Moon isn't the first top-notch Junes EP, but it's the most satisfying.
