  • Oliver Coates is a cellist who works with the London Contemporary Orchestra, collaborates with artists like Mica Levi and makes his own dance music. Spatial, who also appears on this EP, has spent the better part of the last decade breaking down dubstep and techno into minimal compositions and audiovisual exercises. As part of OOH-sounds' Decouple ][ Series, which pairs artists working in experimental electronic music, the duo are a surprisingly good match. Coates's "Path in, J Lover One, Yomi, Umbo" runs for 12 minutes, presented in four parts that work as one piece. The first three minutes start with wobbly synth oscillation and restrained cello before dropping into strings and a looping harp melody. It then builds into a more conventional piece, with loops and cut-up house samples. All the while, there's a sample of the Gilmore Girls playing deep inside the mix.
