  • Seph is an important techno artist you may not have heard of. Like his Colombian counterpart Verraco, Sebastian Galante has been holding down techno in Argentina for over 15 years. He's released on all sorts of labels, from Cityfox to Echocord, but his new EP is especially good. Tierra Del Fuego comes via Insurgentes, a new-ish label run by Verraco that's hosted some exciting Latin American techno. Galante's inventive, atmospheric contribution is a striking addition to Insurgentes' catalogue. A lot of Tierra Del Fuego will sound familiar to techno heads, because it works within established styles. The icy "Ritual," for example, recalls a Northern Electronics track with dub techno reverb. The title track resembles old trip-hop or late '90s IDM. The stunning "Geomancer" has a tough, staggered kick pattern, a cross between techno and halftime drum & bass. Throughout, Galante is talented enough to put his own spin on these tracks, each of which is immaculately produced. (It's not far off from artists like ASC or Sam KDC.) Each cut is loaded with enough detail to keep them in your head.
