  • Call Super's new EP is meant for the afterparty. And not just any afterparty, but the really late hours, when energy (and supplies) start to run low. Both sides are essentially different versions of the same track. They're long, meandering and squirmy, based on pads and chimes that pop up in odd parts of the stereo spectrum and basslines that won't stay still. The faster track ("All We Have Is Speed") is basically microhouse. It builds steadily, riding a topsy-turvy bassline while melodic squiggles and chimes ring out in almost random places. It reminds me of a Bruno Pronsato track crossed with Objekt's "The Stitch-Up." "All We Have Is Glue" is the deeper B-side, the kind of thing that you could play at the margins of the party—more likely a comedown closer, but it might also work in an opening set. It approaches vintage progressive house with uplifting pads and swung drums, though it's weighed down by a muggy psychedelia. By channeling the musicality and colour of his last album into bizarre club cuts, Call Super has found yet another corner of his sound to explore.
