- An intense blend of EBM and techno.
- If there's a young producer in the bustling world of EBM techno that deserves extra credit, it's Joey Gonzalez, AKA Blush Response, a New Yorker who once made synth pop but now produces some of the most charismatic techno around. He admires the likes of Skinny Puppy and Front Line Assembly, and comes face-to-face with one of his heroes on Corruption Of Form, a collaborative EP with the latter group's synth wiz, Rhys Fulber. (You might also know Fulber from Delerium's massive Sarah McLachlan-featuring hit "Silence.") The duo harnesses the potential of Blush Response's last album on Sonic Groove, where techno gets a boost of both volatility and violence from EBM's aesthetics.
Though tempos vary wildly across Corruption Of Form, the music throughout is cutting, full-throated and limber techno. With its sampled drums and wheezing synths, "Dissipate" comes closest to EBM. The midrange synth ripples that cut across "Corruption Of Form" are thrilling, too. Taking things all the way up to 147 BPM, "Threat Perception," seems like the hardest track here, but consider the blast furnace feel of "Federal Republic." The staggered kick drums land like a one-two punch, the track ripped apart by ugly distortion and samples of orchestral strings. Some tracks on Corruption Of Form sound like EBM techno, but on "Federal Republic" the duo strike upon something new.
