  • Ewa Justka is a producer, performer, teacher, synth builder and researcher whose disorderly music has recently begun showing up in the techno scene. Her tracks, usually composed using synths and drum machines she builds herself, occupy a warped milieu somewhere beyond the hard and fast techno that's so popular these days. This is probably explained by her background in the noise scene—as she told RA a couple years back, her fierce freeform compositions have gradually taken on more recognisable rhythmic shapes. She's appeared recently at clubs and events like Unsound, Corsica Studios, Unpolished and No Bounds Festival, spaces where traditional techno and its experimental offshoots are allowed to collide. You'd hardly describe Inner Surface Music, the label of the punishingly hard duo AnD, as a purveyor of standard stuff, but Justka's appearance on it does seem like more evidence of her infiltration of the "normal" techno scene. If this is the case, Justka brings with her a dark sense of humour and plenty of acid. You Are Repeating Yourself Indeed is led by a track called "Jelly Tits Everywhere," which smashes deranged 303-style lines against drum-machine claps until the beat breaks forth at a cool 220 BPM. "Oh How Edgy," which also drops acid and straight-ahead drum patterns, rolls at a slightly friendlier 150 BPM, and if you're scanning the EP for potential DJ weapons, the fiery KRTM remix of "You Are Repeating Yourself Indeed" is the releases's most polished moment (relatively speaking, of course). The original version of that one, meanwhile, doesn't need beats to convey the feeling of an onrushing panic attack.
